The traditional pub settle is mostly timber and only a little upholstery, the opposite of a modern padded booth, and that is exactly what makes it right for a heritage pub or hotel front bar. The Publican has a tall 1,450 mm back of vertical boards between 40 mm thick solid side panels that wrap the sitter into a snug. A 450 mm upholstered back pad and seat cushion give comfort without hiding the timber.
A 60 mm solid capping finishes the top with a fine brass strip, and each side panel carries a plain brass roundel. The frame is dark-stained oak-look solid timber; species and stain can be matched to your bar joinery. Settles can be placed back to back to form booths, or run along a wall.
Planning notes. The settle's height makes it ideal for creating intimacy in large rooms and for screening draughts near doors. Allow about 600 mm of seat length per person, so the standard 1,500 mm section seats two comfortably and three at a squeeze. Because it is heavy solid timber, it is usually fixed to the wall or floor by your shopfitter for stability; we supply fixing points on request.
