Simple and architectural, the Kurrajong is a low, armless chair made from square-section solid timber with a woven natural cane seat and a cane back panel. The back legs rise straight into the back frame, the front legs are slightly splayed, and stretchers tie the frame together low down. The finish is a dark walnut stain that contrasts with the honey-coloured cane.
With no upholstery, it is light to move and quick to clean, and it ages well in rooms with timber, stone and plants, as in the photo beside a pond and bamboo floor lamp. It sits lower than a dining chair, so pair it with coffee or side tables.
Construction: solid hardwood frame, mortise-and-tenon joints, commercial lacquer; machine- or hand-woven cane in routed frames, replaceable if damaged.
Where it works: cafe lounges, hotel lobbies, cellar doors and tea rooms.
Care: for indoor and fully covered areas; keep cane out of constant direct sun.
Options: stain colour, seat pad, dining-height version on request.
