The Yarra is built from a few strong timber shapes. Each side is a single closed loop of dark walnut-tone timber that forms the leg, the runner on the floor and the arm in one piece. A tall rectangular back frame is laced with natural rope in an open grid, and a grey woven seat cushion sits on a timber deck between the sides.
The sled sides spread the load across the floor, which is kind to timber floorboards and carpet, and the open rope back keeps the chair from looking heavy in a small lounge. One photo shows it on patterned carpet, as it might sit in a hotel or club lounge.
Construction: solid hardwood sides and back frame, glued and screwed, commercial lacquer; natural or synthetic rope laced through drilled rails; removable seat cushion with zip cover.
Where it works: hotel lounges, club rooms, cellar doors and cafe lounge corners.
Options: rope colour, stain, seat cushion fabric; outdoor-rated synthetic rope available for covered terraces.
